UN Secretary-General Extends Condolences on the Passing of Iran’s President
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres conveyed his heartfelt condolences to Iran following the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, along with several other senior government officials, as reported by Anadolu Agency.
In a statement by his spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric, Guterres expressed his sadness over the loss, saying, “The Secretary-General is saddened by the death of H.E. Mr. Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, H.E. Mr. Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Minister for Foreign Affairs, and their colleagues in a helicopter accident on 19 May.”
The Secretary-General also offered his sincere condolences to the families of the deceased, as well as to the Government and people of the Islamic Republic of Iran, according to the statement.
The helicopter crash occurred in a mountainous area within East Azerbaijan Province on Sunday afternoon.
